A goalkeeper since childhood, Steve was the natural choice to take the gloves when Lesbie Avenue formed in 2016—even if, at 5'10", he lacks the traditional dimensions. An instinctive shot-stopper, he is the sort of goalkeeper teammates expect to make the save when it matters. His consistency and distribution occasionally keep things interesting, while cries of “overlap left” and “overlap right” are delivered with little evidence that anybody understands them. His most memorable concession came in Cwmbran. After leaving his area to retrieve a teammate’s discarded hat, Steve watched the referee restart play and was chipped from halfway. Away from goal, he keeps the club moving by organising kits, building the website and communicating with the squad. He also refuses to expose bare skin to artificial pitches on entirely reasonable microbiological grounds. Known as Diabeeto—a typically blunt reference to his type 1 diabetes—Steve’s reliability extends well beyond the pitch.
